Ideas

What exactly is an idea?

It seems to exist in the mind, but how did it get there? How does one impart an idea to another person? Through words, images, and gestures. But then do both people really have the same idea, or instead some subjective version of it.

Ideas move individuals, groups, organizations, nations, even supranational states to action. History tells us ideas can be constructive or destructive. This endeavor seeks to explore good ideas that inspire creativity, joy, goodness, and altruism.

The word “idea” originates from the Greek word “idéa” (ἰδέα) meaning “form,” “pattern,” or “type.” This Greek term is derived from “idein” (ἰδεῖν), meaning “to see,” suggesting the concept of something seen or perceived, either physically or mentally. The term then entered Latin as “idea” and eventually made its way into English.
